The breed
The Australian Cobberdog
A sweet, clever dog who loves to be close to his people. The breed was specially developed as a family dog, assistance dog and therapy dog. Here you can read where the Cobberdog comes from and what makes him so special.
Cobber
Australian for mate
And that is exactly what a Cobberdog wants most, to be a loyal friend to the whole family.

How the breed came about
The Australian Cobberdog comes from Australia. The breed was developed at Rutland Manor and Tegan Park, two breeding centres that had spent years researching the ideal family and assistance dog. The founder of the breed is Beverley Manners of Rutland Manor.
Her aim was a dog with a sweet, calm and reliable character, suitable both as a family dog and as an assistance and therapy dog. It also had to be healthy and have a coat that hardly sheds, so that people with a dog allergy could enjoy a dog too.
To achieve this, the breeds that were introduced were chosen very carefully. In 2004, for example, the Irish Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier was added. Each new line was followed over several generations. Only dogs that truly met the goals for health, character and build continued in the breeding programme.
In 2011 Beverley placed all her records and pedigrees with the MDBA (Master Dog Breeders & Associates). Since 2012 the MDBA has recognised the Australian Cobberdog as a breed in development, and the breed received its own name. "Cobber" is Australian for mate. The MDBA keeps the studbook and is the only organisation allowed to issue official Cobberdog pedigrees.
Today more than 31,000 Cobberdogs are registered worldwide. In November 2024 the breed took an important step towards full recognition. My dogs and puppies are also registered with the MDBA, and in this way I am glad to contribute to the future of this special breed.
What makes the Cobberdog so special?
Character
Sweet, clever and people-oriented. A Cobberdog loves to be with you, is calm at home and learns quickly.
Assistance and therapy dog
The breed is bred for a calm, reliable and sensitive character. That is why the Cobberdog is often used as an assistance, therapy and family dog.
Hypoallergenic coat
The coat hardly sheds, which makes it manageable for many people with allergies. Not sure? Then come and meet my dogs first.
Three sizes
There are mini, medium and standard Cobberdogs, from about 35 to 61 cm at the shoulder.
